FAQ – First Year

Are there income requirements in order to access the scholarship?

No.

Can foreign students apply?

Yes, provided that their diploma entitles them to enrol in a degree course in Italy.

If I pass the exam to attend a degree course, can I change the course later?

Yes, provided that it is compatible with the tests you passed in the competition. The request, anyway, is subject to the approval of the Council of the School for Advanced Studies.

Can I choose the same subjects of the written tests for the oral test?

Yes, the candidate is free to choose for the oral test the same subjects of the written tests (either or both), or to choose to take the interview on other subjects, among those provided for by the degree course he plans to enrol in.

In order to enrol in the degree courses having limited places, is it necessary to pass the relevant admission tests, in addition to the competition for the School for Advanced Studies?

As provided for by the call for admission, there are two cases: one for the degree courses in which the number of places is limited by law (national-level programming) and one for the degree courses with access restrictions provided for locally (local-level programming). For more details, please see Article 2 of the call for admission.

First case: degree courses having a national-level programming (Sciences of Primary Education, Architectural Sciences, Medicine and Surgery). In this case, the participation in the competition for the admission at the School does not replace the national competition for accessing the degree course. The candidate must take both the competition for accessing the degree course and the competition for accessing the School for Advanced Studies.

Second case: degree courses having a local-level programming (for instance, Biotechnologies). In this case, passing the competition for the admission at the School is valid as passing the assessment tests. Passing the competition for the admission at the school gives you access, as a supernumerary student, to the courses having a local-level programmed access. However, it is highly recommended that the candidates apply for the competitions for accessing the degree courses they plan to attend, too (the candidate might not pass the admission test for the School, in which case, in order to enrol in the degree course having a local-level limited access, he has to have passed the relevant admission test).

Is the use of the dictionary allowed for the written Latin test?

Yes, the use of the dictionary for the written Latin test is allowed.

Is the use of the dictionary allowed for the written English test?

No, it is not allowed, because the written test is expressly designed to make its use not necessary.

Is it necessary to be enrolled in the University of Udine before taking the admission competition test for the School for Advanced Studies?

In any case, being enrolled in the University of Udine is an essential requirement to be admitted in the School, if you pass the competition. It is possible to enrol before or after the admission tests for the School, depending upon what is provided for by the degree course you chose. In any case, the students should comply with what is provided for by the relevant study Manifest. In particular, students wishing to enrol in a course with limited places (see above), who, therefore, have to pass the attendant admission tests, have to pre-enrol, in compliance with the regulations provided for by the relevant Manifests.

If you have already paid a first instalment of the taxes for the enrolment, this will be reimbursed to you if you are admitted to the School, as provided for by the call for admission.

Where can I be accommodated in Udine during the competition tests?

The websites of the Municipality of Udine (link) and of the Tourism Agency of Friuli Venezia Giulia (link) have lists of hotels, boarding houses and bed&breakfasts in Udine. Candidates who are not residents in the Province of Udine will be reimbursed the expense for an overnight stay in hotel, up to an amount of Eur 50.

Where can I have lunch and dinner in the days of the written tests?

In the days in which the written tests will take place, the School will offer the candidates a meal at one of the university canteens.
